Dinosaurs of the Sahara
Just a few weeks before opening, our art handlers at WOOD-LEE worked with the curators at the Great Lakes Science Center to install the new Dinosaurs of the Sahara exhibit; now on display May 26 through September 4. The WOOD-LEE crew had to carefully deliver the oversized crates, keeping them organized in the smaller exhibition space, so that they could be easily accessed as the fossils were assembled. With the guidance of the curators, our art handlers hoisted the fossilized bones into the air and delicately affixed them into place.
Dan, one of our art handlers, had to spend some time on a lift, making sure the pterosaur was fastened securely and at the right height to soar overhead. While Brian, another adept handler, attached the skull to an incredibly, long-necked Jobaria skeleton. After assembling all of the fossils and carefully unpacking the rest of the exhibit, our crew not only had to remove all of the crates for storage at our warehouse, but arrange the dinosaurs in the space, and hang information panels before the show was set to open. It was really neat for our crew to get such an up-close and personal look at these huge extinct beasts; when you’re assembling a rib cage, it’s hard not to imagine being eaten!
